Mission
SVT is a pioneer in the valuation of environmental and social impact.

Company Description
SVT provides analysis and verification of the quantifiable social and environmental impact of companies and investment opportunities. We offer a proven method of analysis of a variety of social and environmental benefits to a variety of stakeholders, resulting in a verifiable social return, expressed as an internal rate of return (IRR), net present value (NPV), return on investment (ROI) on projected social impact cash flows. These are solid and traceable figures that allow you to compare and monitor the social side of your projects and investments.

Management Team
Sara Olsen, Founder
Sara Olsen founded SVT Consulting in 2001. Her expertise is in social impact assessment, community economic development and social entrepreneurship. In 1999, she co-founded the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC, www.socialvc.net) and developed the SROI guidelines used by teams and judges to articulate their social and environmental impacts. She was instrumental to the competition’s pioneering use of this framework in its evaluation of all teams. Sara has conducted studies of the social impact assessment frameworks used by five of the top social venture capital funds in the US and of the 88 social returns analyses created by competitors in the NSVC.

Previously she was on the startup team of a Shorebank Corporation social enterprise, Studio Air, where she developed a framework for the venture to track its social performance called Market Rate Equivalent (MRE). Sara has lectured on social impact assessment and sustainability management internationally. She has an MASW from the University of Chicago, an MBA from UC Berkeley, and a BA from Dartmouth College. When not pursuing her passion for SVT, she enjoys exchanging drawings with her two small nieces.

Girls for a Change

Imagine a girl who lives in a dangerous San Jose neighborhood. She wants to participate in the girls' after-school program, but she cannot. It is unsafe for her to walk home at 6:00 at night and her parents work until 8:00. Therefore, she goes home, right after school every day at 2:30, where she waits alone until her parents return. This is a common story. Imagine that same girl. Imagine that she knows how to address obstacles that limit her. Imagine that she goes to her principal and explains the problem and then she calls one of her mentors who connects her to the County Supervisor in her district. She also organizes a group of friends who have the same problem. Imagine that she sets a meeting with her friends, the principal, the mayor and the County Supervisor. She facilitates that meeting with the aim of finding a solution. And she does. Now she and her fellow students stay after school and have a safe way home. This is our work.
